Tax Credit
Not Just For First Time Buyers

First time homebuyers can still get the $8000 tax credit if they have a contract on a home by April 30, 2010 and close on the home by June 30, 2010.

Did you know that you own an existing home, you may be eligible for a $6500 tax credit?  If you have owned a home as a primary residence for 5 of the past 8 years, you may qualify for up to $6500.  You must be under contract for a new primary residence by April 30 and close by June 30.

There are some myths about the current tax credits.
  • I have to sell my home to get the tax credit.  This is not true.  If you do not want to sell your home or are unable to do so, you are still eligible for the tax credit.
  • I have to be living in my primary residence to get the credit.  If you sold your home last year or have moved for some other reason, but have owned and lived in a primary resident for 5 of the last 8 years, you are eligible.
